My recent post about bumping into Katlego on train heading down to Zurich from Davos reminded me of an email I received from another graduate called Andrea Ferry, who had a finance management job in a conservation business at the time she was studying. This is what she wrote:
“I left my finance position with Singita to do Masters full time in 2014 with Ralph Hamann at GSB (co-supervised by Stephanie Bertels at SFU). I am upgrading my Masters into a PhD next year. My research developed a survey to test Efficacy for Sustainability in the workplace. I ran it at Santam and now am looking to do an interesting add-on there to make it PhD worthy! I still consult to Singita, but as their sustainability coordinator. We recently completed a 380 kw solar power plant at our Kruger Nat Park lodge which will cut diesel by 52%. I do research and writing work for the Network for Business Sustainability (SA), as well as consulting to Santam’s Strategy dept. I am currently developing their non-economic indicators for the Board’s monthly report. I am also doing a stint of lecturing in Tourism Finance at UCT’s School of Management. I will be joining Jess Schulschenk (Director of the Sustainability Institute) on a possible research project …and it all started at the SI, of which I have the fondest memories!”
If you are a graduate, please send me your story so that I can post it on my blog, with your contact details if you want this. Also happy to post an anonymous story if you prefer.
